Background

Rodent models of epilepsy are essential for studying disease mechanisms and testing new treatments. However, analysing long-term EEG recordings manually is challenging and time-consuming.

This systematic review analysed 22 studies investigating machine learning and deep learning methods for automated epileptiform discharge detection in rodent EEG recordings over the past three decades.
