Our Research
Our unique multi-disciplinary research programme directly addresses the challenges faced by patients and healthcare professionals. We aim to improve how we diagnose brain diseases, to implement genomics for more personalised and effective therapy, develop the next generation of treatments, and harness state-of-the-art digital technologies to enable informed clinical-decision-making and deliver more personalised and proactive healthcare for patients and their families.
FutureNeuro Research Overview and Goals
Informed by diverse stakeholders, including clinicians, patients, and industry partners, our multidisciplinary research program prioritises real-world clinical challenges and commercial opportunities.

Diagnostics
Our Diagnostics research looks at applying sequencing and advanced informatics and nanomaterials technology to discover, detect and interpret biomolecules from patients collected via national clinical networks to deliver faster, more accurate diagnosis.
Therapeutics
Our Therapeutics research is exploring new types of therapies, including molecules that work by controlling the activity of networks of genes to stabilize or recover brain function to see how we could deliver these to the brain.
Digital Health
Our Digital Health research aims to deliver a research-adapted continuously learning and innovative healthcare system through careful design, development and implementation of eHealth technologies.
Strategic Research Programmes
In addition to our core research programme, FutureNeuro researchers play leading roles in a number of large-scale research and training programmes. For these we partner with other SFI Centres, with industry, as well as academic partners in the UK and Ireland.
Strategic Research ProgrammesPublications
FutureNeuro’s strategy is to perform excellent, challenge-based, impactful science that delivers technologies that improve clinical practice and patient health and well- being. A key way we measure our progress is through the publication of our breakthrough discoveries in highly reputable journals across our three thematic areas. Reflecting the values and structure of FutureNeuro, we strive to collaborate with academic, clinical and industry partners. To date, 76% of all FutureNeuro publications are with international collaborators (compared to a world-average of 20.9% - Ref Scopus) and 9.9% of our publications are with industry.
