Neurodegenerative Disorders Parkinson’s Disease

Dr Maureen Labbé obtained a University Diploma of Technology (DUT) in Medical Biology and Biotechnology from Université de Bretagne Occidentale, followed by a BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, an MSc in Biology, Biotechnology and Therapeutic Research, and a PhD in Oncology and Epigenetics from Nantes Université.

During her graduate research, she investigated the role of non-coding RNAs, including extracellular vesicle-associated non-coding RNAs, in tumour progression, immune escape and radiotherapy resistance. This provided extensive experience in molecular biology and in vitro functional assays using cell lines and primary cells. Building on her expertise in non-coding RNAs and RNA therapeutics, she is now applying this knowledge to neurodegenerative disease and lung cancer.

As a NeuroAdapt Fellow, she leads EvolvR-PD, which aims to address the lack of disease-modifying therapies for Parkinson’s disease. The project will establish a pipeline to optimise neuroprotective lncRNAs that could slow or halt neurodegeneration, with the goal of developing these regulatory RNAs into safe, drug-like next-generation therapies for Parkinson’s disease.
