Donia Arafa is a postdoctoral researcher in the Smurfit Institute at Trinity College Dublin. She undertook a BSc. in Human Health and Disease at TCD, before completing an MSc. in Biomedicine at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm in 2019. Donia joined the Wellcome Trust PhD Programme in Tissue Repair at the University of Edinburgh and completed her PhD in the lab of Prof. David Lyons, studying the oligodendrocyte response to damage using zebrafish as a model organism. She joined the lab of Dr. Michael-John Dolan in 2025 for postdoctoral research and through NeuroAdapt is assessing microglial states in brain injury and disease using transcriptomics, and developing new methods to target and understand the function of these states.
