Ronan Lordan
Dr Ronan Lordan is a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher and chronobiologist at RCSI. He completed a BSc in Biological Sciences with concurrent Education in 2015, followed by a PhD in Pharmacology, Nutrition, and Cardiovascular Science in 2020, and an MA in Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship in 2023, all at the University of Limerick, Ireland.
Dr Lordan undertook his postdoctoral training (2020–2025) in Professor Garret A. FitzGerald’s laboratory at the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. His research there focused on elucidating the role of the circadian clock in skeletal muscle ageing and brown adipose tissue thermogenesis, as well as investigating the role of prostaglandins in cardiovascular and skeletal muscle ageing using preclinical models.
At RCSI and FutureNeuro, Dr Lordan is a NeuroAdapt Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow. His current research centres on preclinical investigations of chronotherapeutic strategies targeting microglia, neuroinflammation, and circadian rhythms in bipolar disorder. His work aims to advance understanding of circadian regulation of immune cells in bipolar disorder and to explore how chronotherapeutic approaches may improve outcomes and quality of life for people living with bipolar disorder.
