Background

EEG monitoring is widely used in animal models of epilepsy to study disease progression and evaluate new treatments. However, manual seizure annotation from long-term recordings is highly time-consuming.

Research

This study developed Epi-AI, a machine learning-based semi-automated seizure detection approach for multiple mouse models of epilepsy. EEG recordings from 26 mice with a total duration of 6,451 hours were used for development and testing.

Potential Impact

Epi-AI provides a fast, objective, and reproducible method for analysing long-duration rodent EEG recordings, supporting epilepsy research and preclinical drug development
